ABOUT US:

2015 April 16th Bayview Little School started with Montessori level. Our up gradation happens yearly. It’s a part of Bayview education and charitable trust.

Founder/Director- Mrs. Sajitha Krishna

Chairman of the trust: Mr. Unni Krishnan Nair

They both are contributed themselves to serve the society through charity and education. This school stands differently from other school. Here school admission is open only for 2-4 years children and these children only can continue their higher classes. More than syllabus we are focusing the child behavior, discipline, independent etc. There is no home work system in this school. Parents are requested not to teach anything at home. Children are spending their valued 6 hours at school more over it is value aided education through activities. After school time children should enjoy at home.

Mission:
Aid the children in becoming independent thinkers and doers, in other words enhance skills that will make them excel at whatever they do!!. Create a social awareness so the world can be a better place to live in, in other words foster social skills and values that will make them good human beings !!

Bayview Little School:
For a child below 6, curriculum comprises of the environment which in turn means the tools that we offer to the child to be able to learn. It is essential that young child get daily experience with learning aid which has specific usage, a devise on the curriculum.

Neurological research shows that the early years play a key role it development of the mind of the child.
Babies begin to learn about the Environment around them from an early age, during the prenatal, perinatal (immediately before and after birth of a child) and postnatal period.

The early experiences of a child- the bond it forms with its parents as also it first learning experience deeply influence its future physical, cognitive, emotional development.

Optimizing the early years of its life is the best investment we can make in a society to ensure a good success in future.

Most of the traditional Schools do not have all categories of development. They are mostly focusing on Language (especially writing Skills) and physical activities and no focus on personal development. Children are just kept happy through audio visual technology, which is harmful to the brain development of a young child. Our 2-4 curriculums are based on Dr. Maria Montessori Philosophy and our own Methodology.

Our curriculum is comprehensive Child Centric Curriculum that comes with a set of objectives in all major areas of development. It is related to the child’s readiness, interests, skills of questioning, learning and the cultural surrounding in which the child finds itself.

Experience that shows brain development through the senses includes sound, touch, vision, smell, taste and thoughts injury, illness and other ancilliary factors.

We believe Preschool Education should be given as much as importance especially in the case of working parents as possible to the child in all areas of development. The activities have been designed, keeping in mind and importance of giving clear direction to the child in its early years.

   It could involve
1. Individual learning with materials
2. Small group activities in art, language and gross motor skills
3. Occasional support learning through role plays presentation, innovative Story Telling
4. Reading
5. Field Trips
6.Project based learning for children
7. Cultural Celebration

We believe the child’s home environment plays a very important role in early learning and shaping the child’s personality. Keeping this in mind, we have several parents feedback sessions and guidelines that can be followed in the house to ensure that the school and the home foster the child’s development, cumulating.

What differentiates us is following factors.
1. The Child Centric approach rather than teacher centric.
2. Strong Montessori based philosophy and method also incorporating the best practices from philosophy that help the child development.
3. Strong focus on structured curriculum
4. Beyond Song and Dance Routine, Nursery Rhymes and Playing with Toys, so as to make the child to imagine new things.
5. Materials and tools for learning designed for the curriculum
6. Continuous assessment Techniques.

LKG onwards we are following ICSE syllabus. But teaching method is our own. Without class room, timetable, mixed age grouping are our specialty where children are learning their own. We are creating environment for children to learn on innovation.

In Bayview Little School without class room, time table, age division children are free to enjoy their schooling. No home works, children are learning only two subjects per day. Children are arriving to school at 8.30 am. Montessori children are spending here 3 and half to 4 hrs in the school. Other class students are spending 6 hrs at school. Learn, play, creative activities, within this 6 hrs indulge in span.

According to health directory recommended, child below 13 years needs minimum of 9 to 12 hrs sleep. A span of 6 hrs spends at school. So we suggest parents to avoid teaching or home work time at home. Let them relax, play and spend time with parents. Mental relaxation, physical exercise, and creativity all they need in required proportion. Education is not just syllabus based or homework based. Education at all level is step by step. It helps a child to build their future.

We are tightly integrating these 4 components in a way that will have the most beneficial impact on the development of the child. The core philosophy founded by Montessori Method fixes the curriculum. The curriculum is the foundation for the tools/ materials used in the pre-school. Each material has been designed and manufactured keeping in mind the curriculum objectives and its philosophy. The teachers have been trained intensively on such philosophy, curriculum and the materials. So all the 4 components are interwoven and this results in an Early Learning program that will aid in building adults who are not only academically equipped, but also socially adapt to become clear thinking humans.

The Philosophy
A child with a purpose knowing what he wants to do next and is able to do is the happiest. Out of this joy comes self confidence & willingness to work. If such a child is equipped with the right tools, there is no stopping in his way to excellence.

Research proves that Early Education is critical because:
* Brain development is most rapid in the early years
* 75% of neural connectivity is complete by the age of 7
* When the quality of stimulation is deficient, child development is seriously affected.

Early years (2 to 6) are unique for phenomenal brain development and learning in a child. The capacity to absorb concepts and learn is highest during this phase. Hence it is important to expose the child to a structured environment which will provide adequate and appropriate stimulus for learning.

Every child has an inherent nature and intelligence that is peculiar to him. This varies from child to child and is the most important factor to consider when the child comes to school.

Learning Modes
We believe preschool education should give as much exposure as possible to the child in all areas of development. Appropriate stimulus is the key to early learning. Hence, the activities have been designed keeping the child in mind and ensuring there is “directional” play all the time. It would involve

 Individual learning with materials
 Small group activities in art, language and gross motor skills
 Learning through a thematic approach
 Occasional support learning through role plays, presentations, story telling
 Reading
 Field trips
 Project based learning for older children

In the 2 to 4 years category, we begin with fine motor and practical life skills. English is introduced with phonetics. Mathematics is introduced with materials that help the child comprehend this very abstract area. There are also a variety of activities that aid cognitive development and logical thinking. In the 4 to 6 age group, children are taken through a program that covers fairly complex areas of language, mathematics, geography, history and science in a manner that will help them explore, discover and understand the fundamentals

Critical Non Academic Learning
The curriculum provides many opportunities for children to make choice and decisions about their work. Children have the choice to work in small groups/ individually depending on their needs at different times.

During the course of working through the day, we constantly create opportunities for children to development their language skills as well as focus on their emotional development. We encourage them to receive help from and offer help to other children, thus inculcating a sense of social awareness. Mixed age grouping also helps them become better learners.

We also lay emphasis on creating environmental awareness and help them develop practical skills like cutting, sieving and gardening. We also offer sample activities for development in the areas of art.

Physical development is not just about running around or cycling, it is taken very seriously and there are a series of activities that are designed keeping in mind the age and growth of the child.

Assessment
Development in early years happens at a phenomenal speed and is constantly varying. Hence assessment in early years has to be a continuous process. We have a system that constantly checks on the child’s progress and helps us keep updates and records about the child more efficiently. This helps us share information with parents also on a regular basis. Constant assessment keeps the teachers completely keyed in with the progress of the child which enables us to keep challenging the child and hence we can avoid a situation where the child is bored or has lost interest.

The Environment
For a child below 6, curriculum comprises the environment which in turn means the tools that we offer the child to learn. It is essential that a young child gets daily experience with learning aids which have specific usage, derived from the curriculum.

All areas of work for the child, both internal and external have been planned with extreme care to facilitate self learning and implement the objectives set in the curriculum.

The Teachers
Our staffs are trained to ensure that the curriculum objectives for each child are met consistently without creating a disturbance in the child’s work or thought process in a warm way. They are trained to facilitate learning, observe, record and assess on a daily basis. We have a healthy and an appropriate student-teacher ratio to ensure that every child’s needs are met without making him excessively dependent on an adult for learning Materials presentation will be given by teachers to the child individually for their overall holistic development of the child. All the activities will take place in presence of an adult in charge.

Methodology
• Development through work by hands
• Teachers are facilitators
• Self Learning Environment
• Each Child at his own pace
• Mixed Age Grouping
• Self correction
• Freedom of choice
• Independence
• Inner discipline
• Daily observation and assessment
• Socially vibrant environment
• Encouraging the child’s inherent desire to do and learn.

Initial Days:
During the child's first day at school, we need to settle them comfortably without disturbing other children who are already present in the school. We may hence take the child in for a limited period of time (1 hour) increasing the time over a period of 2 weeks. The time taken depends on the child and will vary from child to child.

We initially introduce activities to the child that he / she is most comfortable with which will include art, music, sand play and outdoor activities which will help them settle faster. We require your help in ensuring the child settles in the school as soon as possible.

Please do not linger after leaving the child in the school as they get disturbed knowing you are around. Also, please do not have too many goodbyes while dropping the child which may disturb the child. A smiling and reassuring “bye” and “see you” later would be best for the child.

Parental Involvement:
A child below 6 has two big influences: Home & School. It is essential that in both these spheres you speak the same language so that the child can progress in a positive and unambiguous manner. To keep this process smooth, we urge parents to attend all the Parent-Teacher Interaction sessions that will help us understand your children better. We also urge parents to inform us about any incidents/ circumstances that may have occurred out of school that could affect the child. (Eg. lack of sleep, illness, birth of a sibling, loss of a treasured toy etc).A child who is tense or unhappy will not be able to play or learn properly. So it is important for parents and preschool staff to work together to help the child to feel confident and secure in the group. This takes longer for some children and parents should not feel worried if their child takes a while to settle. We will take all measures required to settle the child in the environment as soon as possible. It is always important for the parents to be aware of the updates of their child.

Drop off and Pick up:
Drop off and pick up is a very important part of child's day at school. Therefore it is necessary to ensure that your child is handed over to the concerned teacher. You may leave after telling a goodbye to your child and reassuring that you will be back to receive. Children need to know that you are seeing them off or receiving them properly. Please ensure that you are not speaking on the mobile and leave the child at the gate and walk off at the same time, do not linger saying 3-4 rounds of goodbyes.

While picking up, the children are excited at seeing you again, Please ensure you greet them affectionately and not disinterestedly. We request parents not to chat/ talk in very loud voices outside the school premises when you come to pick up or drop your child. The teachers will escort the child, help them with their footwear and hand them over to you.

Vehicle
We have our own vehicle at school
Driver: well mannered caring responsible person, past 5 years he is the one with us.

One maid will be always with school trips.
First aid box / vehicle maintenance like insurance/ pollution certificate, services everything maintaining in proper.

Timings:
1. L.K.G, U.K.G and 1std children who drop by parents should reach before 8.45 at school.
2. Montessori children should reach before 9a.m at school.
3. During school hours or dropping time or pick-up time parents are not allowed inside the school gate. We will receive or we will drop the child till gate.

Language policy
English is the language to be used within the campus and in the school bus.

Food:
Parents should provide a packed clean hygienic snack / lunch. Please ensure that you send healthy snacks to school. Food like finger chips, fizzy drinks, Maggi etc are not allowed. Sharing of food among the children is generally not encouraged as each child has a different food intake and health that may lead to consequences such as allergies. No non-vegetarian food will be allowed including egg. We would strongly encourage healthy food like chapatis, fruits, dosa, upma, Idlis, sandwiches etc.

Also make sure to cut it into small pieces so that the child can manage by themselves. Quantity of the food should be optimum according to the intake of the child. Aqua Guard water is provided in the school. If you are particular, please do send water in water bottles and we will ensure your child is fed the same and not the water in the school.

Attire:
Please ensure that you send your children in loose fitting and comfortable clothes and easy to wear shoes. We encourage and teach the children to be independent and perform all their activities themselves. It would be a huge deterrent to the confidence of the child if you attire them in clothes and footwear that are not easy to handle by them.

Please send two changes of dress which we will keep in the school for emergencies. Please replace the soiled clothes when we send them back to you the next day. The parents have to make sure that all the belongings of the child such as bags, water bottles etc should be labeled with the child's name so that it does not get misplaced.

Illness:
If your child has a temperature, sick or has diarrhea, please do not send him/her to school until the symptoms have stopped. Please do not send your ward to school if they are suffering from any contagious illnesses like viral fever, typhoid, malaria etc. If the illness is long term we could administer medicine in school based on your written instructions. If in case the child is unable to come to the school due to illness kindly inform the school about this. If there is a situation of long leave in case of emergency a medical report should be submitted to the school.

Injury / Accidents:
In case of any injury, we will be administering first aid to the children or in some cases going to the nearest doctor. We may not always wait for the parents to administer any necessary treatment.

Toilet Training:
Most children are reasonably toilet trained by the age of 2. However if there is any challenge, we will do our best to ensure that they get trained. But we do expect parents to take primary responsibility to ensure that their child is toilet trained. We would prefer not to have the diapered in school unless it is a necessity due to medical/other reasons.

Birthday, Festivals and Celebration:
Birthday is a very special day for both parents and children, we encourage parents to celebrate their child’s birthday only with a fixed appointment in our school premises. You may distribute books or non toxic crayons to the children instead of sweets or chocolates as we need to respect the fact that children are prone to food allergies. We do not encourage elaborate birthday celebration in school. We would like to keep the event simple and fun for the child concerned as well as the other children.

Festivals:
Festivals call for celebrations. As it is a part of their cultural experience, we encourage children to experience various forms of celebrations without hurting any religious or other sentiments. We will be having celebrations as part of our routines details of which will be communicated in advance to you.

We celebrate all festivals like Republic Day, Independence, Friendship Day, Raksha Bandhan, Holi, Fathers Day, Deepavali, Krishnashtami, Onam, Teacher’s Day,Gandhi Jayanthi, Kannada Rajyothsava, Children’s Day,X-mas, Eid,

Field Trips:
Field trips are a popular activity for all children. Since they love to explore new places with their friends such activities are encouraged with good planning to ensure a successful trip. Field trips are done twice a year to places like Museum, National parks, Zoo etc. Necessary measures will be taken by the school while conducting these activities.

Visitors / Observation:
Please do not disturb the school by calling each time you see anything that you feel uncomfortable with. There will always be trained people supervising the child’s work and ensuring the child is safe and secure. Constant interruptions will not help us in our cause.

School’s property;
If the child carries any material belonging to the school environment the parents need to return it back to the school. Children often do this as they are attracted to the materials. It is natural and not by any means an offence. We request parents to check the children’s bags and pockets regularly and return any material that they may find with the child. No play materials are allowed from home in the school environment.

Emergency Procedure:
In case of emergencies like sickness, strike, shut-down of the city parents will be informed through phone/text. However in case of parents fail to respond, the emergency contact details given in the admission form will used.

Fire and safety exit map exhibited in rooms.

Discipline:
Our curriculum and methodology runs on this wheel. Both the parents and the child have to be in proper discipline so that we achieve our goal and at the same time maintain the decorum of the school. We in turn will be as disciplined because we are the role models for the children at our school and will try to see the best example for them.

Holidays:
We work from Monday to Saturday.
All government holidays in the year.
All government holidays in the year. Please try to plan your vacation in line with this so that the child does not miss school days. Please ensure you call and inform us if the child is not coming to school. If there is a sudden declared holiday / Bandh the parents need to confirm this from the school before you consider it as a holiday. Please make it a habit to check the child’s diary on daily basis and feel free to share with staff, information about their child’s strengths, weakness, area of interests etc.
Dasara Holidays 15 to 20 days
Diwali Holidays 5 Days
X-mas Holidays 5 to 10

Communication with Parents:
Communication will be maintained on regular basis by the teacher through the school diary. The parents can use the same for any clarifications. Emails are generally sent by the management of the school to inform important events, holidays or any emergencies. Phone calls will be generally made in case of medical emergencies or clarifications. We will organize parent – teacher meetings.

If you have further questions or need more information do not hesitate to call us.

Home Environment
To aid us in the overall development of the child, we request you to follow a few things in the house.

1. One of the fundamental personality aspects we work on in the curriculum is to build the independence in the child to do their own things. Given this, we would encourage parents to allow the child to do their own things in the house (like pouring water into a glass, drinking water, having food etc.). It would be helpful if the items which the children use regularly in the house are kept at child level so that they can do things on their own (For eg. having a small step stool next to the wash basin for the child to climb and clean their hands).
2. Involve the child in the day to day activities in the house as they enjoy doing / helping things
3. Try to be role models yourselves for everything you do in the house before asking the child to follow the same (like ensuring remove your slippers and keep it properly in the shoe stand before asking the child to do the same).
4. Ensure you follow routines in the house. Children love routines and when routines are not maintained, they tend to be cranky and disoriented. Please ensure sleep timings, food timings, play timings are maintained as consistently as possible so that the child knows what to expect.
5.Most importantly, please reduce exposure to technology as this is fairly detrimental to a young child’s development. Instant gratification and expertise on a tablet / laptop / mobile is not very useful in the long run.
These are skills that children pick up very fast at 6+ also, and there is no need to introduce them to it at a very early stage. Limited amount of television (preferably songs, music CD’s) is probably the most we should expose the child to.
6. Language development is followed in a very structured manner using phonetics. Please avoid teaching ABC, or for apple kind of programs at home. We do encourage a lot of reading to the child and story-telling by the parents which will also help you bond much better with the child.

Safety protection
The following precautions will be followed for the safety of all children at all times:
